Potato Tawa Sandwich Recipe by Indian Food Made Easy

A Potato Tawa Sandwich is a delicious, quick, and easy snack that's made using bread and a flavorful potato filling, cooked on a tawa (griddle) for a crispy, golden finish. It’s perfect for breakfast or a light evening snack.



Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (white or brown)
  • 2 medium-sized potatoes (boiled)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Fresh coriander (chopped)
  • 2-3 tbsp butter (for grilling)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Potato Filling:

    • Start by boiling the potatoes, then peel and mash them well.
    • Heat some oil in a pan and add the finely chopped onion. Sauté until golden brown.
    • Add the green chili and chopped tomato, and cook for 2-3 minutes until soft.
    • Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix everything well.
    • Add the mashed potatoes to this mixture and stir it all together.
    • Cook the potato filling for 3-4 minutes, allowing the spices to blend. Finally, sprinkle garam masala and fresh coriander leaves. Mix and remove from heat.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Take two slices of bread and spread butter on one side of each slice.
    • On one slice, spread a generous amount of the prepared potato filling. Cover it with the other slice, buttered side facing out.
  3. Grill the Sandwich:

    • Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium heat. Add some butter to the tawa.
    • Place the sandwich on the tawa and press it gently with a spatula. Grill it until golden and crispy on one side.
    • Flip the sandwich and grill the other side until crispy and golden brown as well.
  4. Serve:

    • Cut the sandwich into halves or quarters and serve hot with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

Tips:

  • You can add extra vegetables like bell peppers or carrots to the filling for more flavor and texture.
  • Adjust the spice levels according to your preference by adding more or less chili powder.
